Termite Contract | |
On March 6, 2000, The Huntington Townhomes Assn. signed a contract
with Terminix Inc. to provide termite servcies for the entire
complex.
The contract with Terminix Inc. is for the treatment of any existing
infestations of subterranean termites, and the prevention of any
future infestations. If future infestations do occur, Terminix
will treat them, and will pay for any damage caused to any of
the homes in the Huntington. Prevention of future infestations
will be accomplished with the installation of a Dow "Sentricon"
system. This is a series of termite traps that will be inserted
into the ground around the foundations of all the buildings in
the Huntington. Terminix will regularly monitor these traps and
bait them with termite poison as needed.
The contract does not cover drywood termites. Those are the termites
that swarm in the late spring. There is no way to prevent drywood
infestations. Fortunately, they are slow eaters and generally
cause serious damage only if left untreated for many years. If
drywood termites are found, spot treatment can be applied, or
a building can be tented. Again, though, the cost of these procedures
would not be covered under the Terminix contract.
Terminix will inspect the interior of each home in the Huntington
at least once a year, at no cost to the association. Individual
homeowners can request any additional inspections that they feel
are needed. For example, if a homeowner were to see termite wings,
Terminix would come out and inspect the home. There would be no
charge for any of these inspections.
